Choose between shared, shared (virtual machine), dedicated and cloud hosting – it isn’t that much complex to set apart

Posted by: admin

Overview

Most hosting plans allow a set amount of bandwidth every month. This is usually measured in the (GB) gigabytes of data transferred, but larger-capacity hosting plans are also offered that allow terabytes of bandwidth (1,000 gigabytes). You’ll have to measure your needs of data downloading to select and purchase from few different options in terms of types of plans offered, ranging from shared hosting to dedicated hosts.

Shared Hosting

In this plan, you share the machine that hosts your website with other customers. If anyone from those other customers has a high-traffic website or executes some abnormal process that locks up the server, your website will also be affected.

Virtual Machine – Next level of shared hosting

This is next level of  or enhanced form of shared hosting. Virtualization software is special software that lets you run multiple operating systems on a single machine.

The big advantage of virtual machine over simple shared hosting is that each hosting account is housed within its own container. So, although all customers consume resources from a single machine, each container is isolated from all the others. If customer X does something that locks up his virtual machine, none of the other websites on that computer will be affected.

Dedicated Hosting

This is premium option where you are allocated your own machine that is hosted by some other company. No other website or softwares from other vendors can be resided on it. Therefore you can run apps that demand heavy resources (e.g., RAM, CPU, and bandwidth).

Shared hosting is by far the cheapest option, whereas dedicated hosting can be choice for hosting applications that earn you atleast few hundred dollars a month.

Finally, there is cloud hosting.

Cloud Hosting

With cloud hosting, you pay for the capacity like processing, storage, and bandwidth,  you deal with a hosting company and there is no one machine that hosts your site.

Cloud-hosting companies possess a network of machines and are basically selling you the capacity to serve up your website on that network. The big advantage here is that you only pay for what you use, and you’re allocated more as your program scales up.

It is often argued that cloud hosting is more reliable because your hosting needs are spread among a number of machines; if one goes down, it doesn’t take out your website.

However, in most establishments, especially in newer setups, something can just as easily go wrong with a cloud host as with a traditional host.
